Because it's funny. I've been hyper-sensitive about weight-related jokes all my life. The main reasons being 1) they usually aren't funny. and 2) they are usually made by non-fatties.

Ususally I reserve my cracks for myself, but sometimes I get bored with self-deprication.

Let it be known that I have nothing but love for my sisters in fatdom, but I think having a sense of humor (however warped it is) about the whole situation is what keeps me from kicking the chair out from underneath myself.
